If you are a pet owner, you have probably had the need to find a suitable place for your pet while you are out of town. You want the best care possible, and a number of options are available. Having a friend or family member look after your pet is not always the right choice, especially if your pet is an escape artist. Home pet sitting services may not provide enough supervision for your pet during the night. Fairway Knolls Veterinary Hospital offers pet boarding with close supervision and professional veterinary care if ever the need arises.
Pet owners should always visit the boarding facility before dropping off their pets and should get to know the people who will be caring for their animals. When boarding day arrives, you can help ensure that your pet has a satisfactory experience by providing the food he or she likes, carefully labeled with the name, amount and number of feedings during the day. Many facilities will allow you to leave a toy or rawhide with your pet to keep the animal occupied. If your pet takes medication, make sure it is labeled with your pet’s name and the dosage. When it’s time to drop off your pet, hand over the leash and say a quick goodbye. Drawn out farewells only serve to make animals more anxious.
At Fairway Knolls Veterinary Hospital’s boarding facilities, dogs are provided with a cage or run, depending on their needs. Dogs are taken out for bathroom needs and area exercised on a daily basis. Dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations to prevent the transmission of disease while in the facility. Cats are kept in a separate area, apart from the dogs, with bedding or with their own beds from home. Cats also must have their vaccinations to prevent the spread of diseases. Baths and nail trimming is available, if desired while they are at the facility.
